Netball Walk postponed The Netball Federation of Sri Lanka has thought of a novel way of collecting funds for the up-coming Asian Netball championships in Singapore by organising a walk under the theme "Build a healthy and proactive society thru' sport". The walk, however had to be put off owing to the death of Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar. The new date is August 28. The Asian Netball Championships will be held from September 3 to 12 in Singapore and Sri Lanka stands a good chance of winning the title this year. The Netball Federation requests all past and present players, coaches, umpires, administrators and friends of netball to join them in their endeavour to raise funds. Mrs Rio Ramlan (Tel: 0777288270) and Mrs Nimmi Perera (Tel:0712750492) of the Fund Raising Committee will have prick cards to participate in the WALK to be held later. Meanwhile Hyacinth Wijesinghe is promoting netball in a big way by opening the Netball Academy. Mrs Ivy Singh-Lim, the President of AFNA, in a letter of commendation says: "It has always been our desire to develop coaches, umpires in our neighbouring countries, and I am pleased to note that only you have achieved this and you are also actively promoting netball in Sri Lanka." Hyacinth who passed Level 3 Coaching, having learnt a lot of Jill Mcintosh has also been commended for this as this examination is considered the top level coaching in Sri Lanka. |
