Antonians run amok by Kandy Sports Corr. St. Anthony's College, Kandy ran up the season's highest score when they trounced Zahira College, Colombo by 82 points (6 goals, 9 tries) to 3 (1 penalty) in a hopelessly one-sided schools rugby match at Nittawela yesterday. At half time Antonians led 36-0. It will be no exaggeration to say that the Antonians ran amok and the Zahirians had no answer to their power play. They scored 36 points in the 30 minutes of the first half and a further 46 points in the second half which followed. This was Antonians first appearance in Kandy this season and they will be a major threat to other schools playing in their group. St. Anthonys scored their tries through flanker Sanjay Rajaguru (2), full back Nuwan Chamara (2), winger Mohammed Shafraz (2), fly half Shaheer Reyal (2), prop Roshan Jayasuriya (20), lock Niranjan Xavier (1), No. 8 Vasantha Senarath (1), flanker Dhammika Abeyratne (1), winger Kusal (1). Fly half and skipper Shaheer Reyal and centre Roshan Wijesiri goalled 3 tries each. Full back M. Zard converted the penalty for Zahira. C. Amadoru refereed. St. Anthonys won the under 13 match 53-0 and under 15 match 40-0. |
