We will continuously support President -Thondaman

From the Tamil Press by Thava Sajitharan

Trincomalee Tamil people thronged in for the massive resurgent event yesterday urging the international community to recognize the present ruling body in the Tamil homeland and the self determination of the Tamil speaking people. The event took place at the Youth's playground in Trincomalee.

Meanwhile superintendent of Police in Trincomalee has complained to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission that the hoisting of Tiger flag during the occasion is a violation of the Cease Fire Agreement. (SudarOli(SOI) - 24/10)

"The future President elected in the upcoming presidential election should find lasting solution for the prolonged plight of the Tamils. If it were to become impossible, the International community should give the Tamils the opportunity to establish a separate state by themselves.

According to United Nation's laws, a community battling for a long period of time has the right to form a separate state" said Professor S.Veeragoda on behalf of the Sinhala intellectuals. (SOI - 24/10)

Kandy district parliamentarian and Tourism industry Deputy Minister Faizal Mustafa is to relinquish his portfolio today. It is said that the MP has taken this decision in support of the policy of the Ceylon Workers' Congress, of which he is a member. (SOI - 25/10)

Tamil people are being forced to face unnecessary difficulties because of unexpected Police checking both in Colombo as well as in other parts of the South. Tamil National Alliance's parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingham, in a letter, appealed to the Police DIG Chandra Fernando to stop such inhumane activities. (Virakesari(VK) - 26/10)

The Asian Human Rights Association has publicly released the President commission's investigation report on the killing of 29 Tamil youths at the Bindunuwewa camp in 2000 to journalists in Newdelhi. The report had been obtained secretly.

Albeit the report was submitted to President Kumaratunga in 2002 February, it has not been hitherto made public.

Speaking at the occasion in Newdelhi, Asian Human Rights Association Director Sugath Sakma said: Several charges were placed against the police officers involved in the incident. But the government took no action against them. Instead, they have been granted promotions.

The police officers who were present at the scene when the massacre took place did nothing to save the lives of the youths from a gang of thugs brought from outside into the camp. They just remained witnessing the tragedy. We are going to take this matter to the UN Human Rights Commission. (Thinakural(TK) - 26/10)

The National Resurgent event is yet again to take place in Vavuniya following the resurgent convention held in July where Tamil people's right to self determination was emphasised. (SOI - 27/10)

Commanding officer of Security forces in Vavuniya Major General Parami Kulatunge instructed the Vavuniya district school principals yesterday that they should not allow the students to take part in any activities beyond Education Department's confines in school uniform. (TK - 27/10)

Reports from areas of the Tamil homeland reveal that the campaign for asking the masses to dismiss the forthcoming presidential election by refraining from voting is on increase. It is observed that several hand-outs requesting the public to reject the election are issued both in LTTE controlled areas and other parts of the Tamil Homeland. (SOI - 28/10)

"Our support to president Chandrika Kumaratunga will continue despite our decision to back Ranil Wickramasinghe in the presidential election. We will always pay our hearty honour to her.

There is no second question about that" said Ceylon Workers Congress leader and Nuwara-eliya district parliamentarian Arumagan Thondaman in a press conference held in Bandarawela recently. (VK - 29/10)
