EPRLF (P) supports PM

Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (Pathmanabha Faction) extended its support to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse at the forthcoming Presidential polls.

In a release issued on Oct.25, EPRLF (P) spokensman T. Sritharan states that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse hailed from a rural backround, who understoood the aspirations of the common masses and showed serious concern about human rights.

Mahinda Rajapakse in his 'Mahinda Chintana' had clearly stated his position on various issues. He has given priority to alleviate poverty and eliminate discrimination and to establish social justice. He had stated that he would ensure democratic and human rights in the North-East and the constitutional provisions to protect the rights of Tamils, Muslims and Burghers.

He had emphasised the need to solve the ethnic crisis by peaceful means. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse is interested in the Indian model devoultion of power. Therefore, EPRLF (P) calls upon the people of this country to support Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse at the Presidential polls," Sritharan said.

Referring to his party's position, Sritharan said that the devolution of power within a united Sri Lanka, protection of the rights of minorities, freedom of expression, the existence of multi-party system and prevention of killings and protection of the rights of children in the North-East were his major concerns.

He said an economic system with human face should be built and the anarchic economic system based on consumerism and stock market abolished.

Tamils in the North should be relieved from the double taxation and exploitation. Rights of Sinhalese and Muslims in the North should be protected.

Sritharan said that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse had well understood the local, South Asian and global changes and realities. He has a vision for the future, and therefore, EPRLF (P) decided to support the Prime Minister.
