Soma Thera's death, a conspiracy - JHU Jathika Hela Uurmaya, (JHU) last week refuted allegations that the JHU was seeking political mileage from the death of its late parton Ven. Gangodawila Soma Thera. "When we took up this issue in 2003, the year, Soma Thera died, we were labelled as opportunists, who were trying to get political advantage from the death," said the lay convener of the Party Patali Champaka Ranawaka. He said it was clear to the Party from the beginning that the death was not natural but was pre-planned and said the recent investigations has proved their claim. "We are not taking the issue because of elections, nor would we get any political benefit from this. We press this issue because we want to see the justice done to the late Thera who inspired the entire Sinhalese nation," he said. The investigation, he said was not complete. "The investigation clearly says there was a conspiracy, we demand from the authorities to make a full scale investigation". Ranawaka said it was necessary to get down Shanthi Jayasekara to Sri Lanka to get a testimony from him. According to the Party, it was the 'intentional' medical negligence that ultimately led to the death. "That is why when the Thera fell ill nobody cared to inform the institution of the late monk or his close relatives of the sickness. He also charged that a UNP MP and an NGO member is also involved in the 'killing' of the Bikku.(RS) |
