Public have accepted UNP policies - Tissa Attanayaka by Ananda Kannangara The support given by Ven. Uduwe Dammaloka Thera to the UNP Presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe at the November 17 election, indicates that more have accepted UNP policies, UNP Deputy General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said. In an interview with the "Sunday Observer" yesterday, Attanayake said that though some opposition political parties were trying to mislead people by making various false propaganda to tarnish the political image of the UNP, they would never succeed, when considering the Ven. Thera's support as well as the support extended by two other main political groups to the UNP. "Peace loving people in the country admire the peaceful atmosphere and they do not like to go to war again. That's why our leader always invites the main opposition party, the SLFP to give him a helping hand to bring an everlasting solution to this most important issue," he said He said the UNP's Presidential candidate will undoubtably bring a complete stoppage to the ethnic problem with the help of the SLFP and other political groups after becoming the president in the country, like he brought the peace to a greater extent by signing the "Peace Accord" . |
