SLRFU President Ekanayake thanks Caltex for continued sponsorship by Lal Gunesekera We are greatly honoured for the partnership with Caltex and will do everything to make it work said the President of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU), Priyantha Ekanayake, at Friday night's glittering Observer-Caltex Rugby Awards presentation at the Galle Face Hotel. Ekanayake, who was one of those persons responsible in convincing Caltex to continue with their sponsorship package of rugby, thanked them profusely for their further sponsorship upto 2010 - they entered the scene in 2000. He said: "I thank Caltex for sticking with us through troubled times and congratulate all the award winners". However, the "show" lost some of its glamour as both Eric Rush and Gordon Titjens, two well-known rugby personalities in the world, failed to make the trip to Sri Lanka due to personal commitments, but have indicated that they "will be there" for next year's show. The National Sales Manager of Caltex Lubricants, Sumith Hewawitharane, speaking on the occasion said that Caltex were proud to be associated with the SLRFU and sponsor both the League and knock-out tournaments. He said: "Since 2000 we have been continuing the journey with the SLRFU. We at Caltex have given sports special place and have taken special interest not only in rugby, but also cricket, indoor cricket, volleyball, boxing and motor sports. Hewawitharne too congratulated all the award winners and wanted them to encourage the next generation. Dance items were performed by Chandana Wickremasinghe and his troupe, while Emphasis of Glenda Parthipan, co-ordinated the event. |
