Reason for the LTTE boycott by S. de Silva I read with interest the article " Dissecting the people's verdict" by Jayatilleke de Silva in the centre page of the Sunday Observer of November 20, 2005. As a silent observer of the mono-ethnic fascist politics of the LTTE, I totally disagree with the reasoning adduced to the boycott of the recent presidential polls by the terrorists. Far from the presumption by the writer, this boycott is never an attempt to "try out a new man at the bargaining table". All Sri Lankans should know the true reason for this LTTE boycott. At this point of time in the history of this terrorist organisation, it is a well known fact that their popularity has plummeted to its lowest depth. The reasons for this debacle are many. Some of them are the caste factor, Anandasangaree and Devananda factors and the most recent one, the murder of the two school principals. Hence, a free Tamil vote would have exposed the total unpopularity of the "Sole representatives of the Tamils" to the outside world! This is the sole reason for the recent polls boycott by the terrorists - nothing else! |
