Murali's bowling action cleared Elmo Rodrigopulle reporting from Australia HOBART, Australia, Feb. 4: Muttiah Muralitheran, the controversial Sri Lankan off spinner whose action has once again raised doubts here in Australia, has thankfully been cleared and allowed to bowl the way he is doing. Muralitheran who volunteered for a private test on his ?doosra? at Perth?s University of Western Australia on Thursday, was cleared as he was well below the level of 15 degrees. The clearing of Muralitheran was announced at a press briefing in Perth on Saturday morning. Several questioned Muralitheran?s action, especially because he was bowling the doosra at a faster pace than usual. The tests revealed that he was bowling the doosra at 85 to 90 kmph which below the accepted level. According to manager Michael Tissera, Muralitharan who was having a cloud hovering over his future, especially the bowling of the doosra, will now be at ease and bowl with no anxiety. It has been the fourth time that Muralitheran has been tested at the UWA. In 1995 and 1999, he was tested, while his doosra was examined in 2004, before the International Cricket Council changed the degree of tolerance allowed for spinners from 5 degrees to a standard 15 degrees. |
