Athletic trials Feb 11 and 12 for Commonwealth games

Sri Lanka Athletic Association's first step will be to select athletes to represent the country at the Commonwealth Games to be held in Melbourne, Australia from March 19 to 27. With this view, the AASL will hold a two-day trial on February 11 and 12 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

Prema Pinnawala, General Secretary, AASL said that first the performances of the athletes at the two-day trial will be closely watched and the best will be picked. Most probably, ten athletes will be selected.

Lankan athletes are also billed to participate at the Thai Open Championships in Bangkok, Thailand from April 25 to 28, Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok May 21, Bangalore May 24 and Pune on May 26, and the 22nd World IAAF Race Walking Cup la Couria in Spain in July.

Then the most important event - South Asian Games to be staged in Colombo in August and the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar in December.

The AASL will also hold separate trials to pick athletes for the national training pool after the Commonwealth Games.
