A/Level examination on due dates

Despite the tense situation and escalation of violence, measures have been taken to conduct the G.C.E Advanced Level examination islandwide including LTTE held areas in the North-East on May 22 as scheduled, according to Examination Department sources.

An official of the Department who wished to remain anonymous, expressed optimism that there would be no obstruction to the annual G.C.E A/L examination. He said the department was hopeful that the examinations in the rebel-controlled areas too would proceed smoothly with the cooperation of the Education Department authorities of the relevant regions.

He also noted that examinations were held in the North-East without hindrance in the past when the situation was even worse.

However, the Examination Department will consider appeals from candidates who fear threats in areas affected by violence to have their exam centres changed, the official said.
