Old Zahirians stun Police

Scrum-half turned kicker Ramshan Cuncheer and centre Riyaz Aniz gave
Old Zahirians an emphatic win when they helped their side to beat Police
for the first time in their Caltex League rugby match by 26 points (Two
goals, four penalties) to 15 (Three tries) at Police Park yesterday.
Cuncheer's accurate kicking saw him putting over four penalties and
two conversions while centre Riyaz Aniz who scored the first try for the
winners gave the finishing touches with a try just before the last
whistle which Cuncheer extended the lead from 19\15 to 26\15.
The OZSC forwards hooker Omesh Eranga, props Zian Barker Irshad Hamid,
Rajive Karunaratne played tielessly to rattle the Policemen. Police led
15\13 at the breather.
Both sides seemed equally balanced in the first half with Police
taking the lead. There was no scoring in the second half until Cuncheer
put over two penalties to put the OZSC slightly in front 19\15.
But the match winning last try by Aniz sealed the match in favour of
the new comrs to big time rugby. C. Fonseka, Chaminda Silva and skipper
Pradeep Wilson scored the three tries for the losers.
