Orange Electric supports visually handicapped
Orange Electric, the fully Sri Lankan owned manufacturer and largest
exporter of electrical accessories launched their Corporate Social
Responsibility Project, "Light for you, sight for me" of eradicating
adult onset vision deficiencies by supporting the Sri Lanka Federation
of the Visually Handicapped.
"As a company which provides lighting we find ourselves responsible
to provide light to all, not only for those born with natural good
sight.
This is our purpose of sponsoring the work of the Sri Lanka
Federation of the Visually Handicapped" said Rahman Zubair, General
Manager, Orange Electric Retail Lighting Division, who initiated this
project." He said, "beginning this July, every time you buy an Orange
Electric bulb we will give Re 1 from every CFL bulb and 10cts from every
GLS bulb sold by us in Sri Lanka to the Federation of the Visually
Handicapped to provide cataract lenses and other ongoing medication for
the blind". This project will help prevent total vision loss before it
becomes irreparable for many Sri Lankans.
Dr. Wickrema Weerasooria, Advisor to the Federation of the Visually
Handicapped said, "For the visually handicapped there is only their own
personal determination which helps them. As Einstein said "The blind
cannot see, so they do not know to whom to reach out to. It is for those
with vision to reach out and help them." The Federation gets only Rs.
25,000, per annum from the government for their work. They need almost
Rs. 2 million to carry out their ongoing projects.
Dr. Weerasooria said, "This initiative by Orange Electric will be of
immense help to the Federation to carry on their work.
We the citizens of this country must appreciate the thoughtfulness of
Orange Electric for this very generous support to the blind. I am sure
many persons will benefit from this gesture and my vision is for Sri
Lanka to be a cataract onset blindness free country in this decade."
