10% discount on domestic power bills
by Ananda Kannangara
The Power and Energy Ministry is planning to offer 10 per cent
discount on the monthly electricity bill of domestic consumers.
This would help the CEB to save at least 30 per cent of electricity
consumption and help cut down heavy loss.
Power and Energy Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne told the `Sunday
Observer' that the Government was spending nearly Rs. 160 million a day
on thermal power generation and this is on increase due to the
increasing world fuel prices.
It is reported that if the 10 per cent discount comes into operative,
the consumers will also be gifted with a CFL bulb for their support
extended towards the Government's endeavour of conserving electricity.
According to a CFL bulb importer, a bulb saves 50 per cent energy
consumption. |
