High profile meeting in Wanni
A high profile meeting was held yesterday to discuss the development
of the Wanni electoral District. Infrastructure development projects in
the Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Mullaitivu administrative
districts which come under the Wanni Electoral District were taken up
for the discussion attended by North-East Governor Rear Admiral Mohan
Wijewickreme, Rehabilitation Minister Rishad Badurdeen, Tamil National
Alliance MPs President's envoy and senior advisor Basil Rajapaksa and
JVP MP, Nimal Weerawansa.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss the implementation of a
speedy development program to rebuild the social infrastructure in the
region and there by provide a better living standard for the people in
the area, President Secretariat said in a media statement.
Among the issues discussed were provision of an ambulance to the
Vavuniya Hospital, recruitment of graduates in order to address the
shortage of teachers in local schools, the shortage of nurses and Road
development, etc.
Acting Army Commander Major General Nanda Mallawarachchi, the
Government Agent in Vavuniya and local commanders of the security forces
also attended the meeting.
President's special envoy Basil Rajapaksa promised to draw the
attention of the Education Ministry to the teacher shortage in the
district, the statement added. |
