Peterites in easy win
By Ranjan Anandappa
St. Peter's staged a fine second half rally to record a convincing 44
points (three goals, four tries and a penalty) to nil win over Nalanda
in their schools rugger match at Bambalapitiya yesterday. The winners
led 10\0 at the breather.
The Nalandians did well to hold the strong Peterites with some
effective spoiling work in the initial half of the game restricting them
to 10 points with a goal and a penalty. However, the Petes found their
fluency early in the second session of play when fly half Irfhan Meeding
who was the play maker scored his second try and converted it.
The inexperinced Nalandians ran short of ideas to contain the
seasoned Peterites as they went on to score seven tries and three were
goalled. The try scorers for the winners were Irfhan Meeding (2) centre
Gerard Canute (3), centres Gayan Liyanage and Sham Fernando a try each.
Meeding gave them the extra points.
