The'Glory of Diamond' to be produced in here soon
by Ranga Chandrarathne
The 'Glory of Diamond', an English movie will soon start shooting in
Sri Lanka. M.S.M Rafick producer and script-writer of the film had
written many themes since 1979 under English, Persian and Sinhala
titles. The White Shark, The Runaway, The Diamond Merchant, The God of
Darkness were some of the titles of the films that Rafick has
scrip-written for. The film is produced by Puma Films International.
The story starts with a bloody attack on the Kremlin Security Vaults
and is led by Colonel Andreas Markov. In the attack, Markov loots the
Russian Diamond Reserves to the tune of 50 billion in 20 to 200 karat
flawless stones. Markov then demands twice their face value, in a
clandestine meeting with Sandford Blakenship, head of the World Diamond
Cartel, who has been paying the Russians for years to keep their
Diamond.
World police agencies including the Russian Secret police are after
the stone. Markov entrusts the Diamonds to two of his men, with a plan
to hide them.
At a climbing site in Colarado, Markov's men engage a mountain rescue
expert, Max Walker to guide them on a mountain training tour of ten
great climbing faces of the Rocky Mountains, to prepare for World
Championships. In reality, Russians hide the stones on one of the remote
peaks, ensuing their safety.
Markov strikes a deal with Blankenship, and the Cartel agrees to
deliver the stones once the funds are transferred to a series of
numbered Swiss accounts. He contacts his men and orders them to get the
stones, so that he can make delivery in two weeks.
Six days ahead of the exchange, tragic incidents happen on the face
of a dangerous cliff; the two Russian climbers, who knew the secret
hiding place of the stones, are murdered by a Moscow trained assassin,
code named Iccarus.
The only survivor of the incident is Max who is found nearly dead on
the cliff. The rest of the film deals with an attempt to retrieve Max,
who has lost his memory and the identification of Iccarus. In close-knit
intriguing incidents, viewers take to hitherto untrodden mountain cliffs
in the Rocky Mountains, including 'The Devil's Playground'.
Neth-Ru-2
by Lakmal Welabada
Artists see the world in different angles. They express their
feelings - happiness, agony, hardships and even satisfaction in various
ways.
They use various modes and mediums in this process. Nayani Dilrukshi
Abeyratne, an up-coming artist from Kegalle district is using water
colours on canvas and paper, fabric painting on pieces of raw material
and a few other artistic techniques on pottery for her second art
exhibition 'Neth Ru -2' which will be held at Alliance French Gallery in
Kandy from July 28 - August 3.
Nayani is a second-year Fine Arts student of the University of
Kelaniya. The beautiful sceneries she has picked up from her lovely
rural site, and the busy urban area where she has to hang around to
complete her degree, are depicted in her water colour paintings.
She held her first art exhibition in 2003. She works with Acrylic,
oils and pastel on canvas, but thinks water-colour is a challenging
medium among all other media. "This is because unlike oils and Acrylic,
once a stroke of water colours prints a line on a surface, it cannot be
camouflaged or wiped out.
So the artist should handle the painting carefully from the beginning
to the end," she says. This year's exhibition will be her second dream
coming true. The young artist pushes herself with determination through
many hardships, and is looking for a sponsor for her 'Neth Ru - 2'.
