Lion catches football fever

The finals of the soccer World Cup was held only two weeks ago, as you all know. The finals held on July 9 saw Italy triumphing over France and bagging the much coveted championship for the fourth time in history.

The month-long championship saw increased interest in the game all over the world, with the frenzy reaching fever pitch towards the final stages of the competition. Even in Sri Lanka, where cricket holds supreme, all those children and youth suddenly dumped their bats and balls and started pushing soccer balls around instead.

As we can see from this picture, this fascination with the soccer ball isn't limited to human beings. This lion playing with a ball was caught on camera at the Port Lympne Wildlife Park in Kent, UK. So, football fever has got to the king of beasts as well, isn't it? Who knows? We may even see him as a member of a team or as the mascot at the next World Cup to be held in four years' time.
