Varsity of Tourism and Hotel Management for Koggala
The Southern Provincial Council is constructing the University of
Tourism and Hotel Management at Koggala, Galle at a cost of Rs. 4
million. Governor Southern Province Kingsley T. Wickramaratne on a
recent visit to Austria was successful in working out a partnership
agreement with the best Hotel school, the Salzburg school of Tourism and
Hotel Management, Austria.
A trust is to be formed for the land and building of the school and
the main trustees would be the Chief Minister Southern Provincial
Council who is also the Minister of Tourism, Shan Wijayalal de Silva,
Chief Secretary of the Southern Provincial Council, Chairman of the
Tourism Authority and the Chief Accountant of Southern Province
Dayaprema and A. Samarasinghe.
The patron would be Governor Wickramaratne. The Salzburg Institute of
Tourism and Hotel Management Austria will invest 3-4 million Euros to
set up the management of the Hotel School. The curriculum, the software
and the hardware for virtual kitchen, Catering and virtual travel office
will be the responsibility of the Salzburg Institute.
They would have short term diploma courses to train people.
Discussions are under way for the students to finish their final year at
the Salzburg University - Austria at a discounted rate.
Prof. Mag Leonard Wonder Head of the University of Tourism and Hotel
Management and Mrs. Andrea Monsberger are the coordinators for the Hotel
School of Koggala. Prof. Mrs. Andrea Monsberger will be assigned as the
dean of Ruhuna Austria University of Tourism and Hotel Management and
she would reside in the campus.
