Drugs worth Rs. 570 m sent to the North
On the instructions of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa that humanitarian aid should not be denied
even to LTTE terrorists who are injured in the conflict, the Health
Ministry has already dispatched drugs worth Rs. 570 million required for
the hospitals in uncleared areas of Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi in the
North, said Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de
Silva.
This was revealed by the Minister when Toon Vandenhove, the Head of
delegation of the International Committee of Red Cross met him at his
Ministry to discuss about the supply of drugs to the uncleared areas in
the Northern Province.
The drugs needed for the third quarter of the year have now been sent
to all medical institutions of the area including the two District
hospitals in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu by the Ministry of Health at the
request of Provincial Health Directors.
Two hundred and eighty five varieties of drugs including drugs used
for surgeries worth over Rs. 320 million have been dispatched to these
two district in 10 lorries. |
