Praba, Mithun fare well in Singapore

A former Sri Lanka amateur champion K. Prabagaran and young Mithun Perera brought honour to their motherland by finishing second to New Zealand in the Team event by a difference of just 3 strokes at the 59th Singapore Open Amateur Golf Championship on the Bukit Course of the Singapore Island Country Club last month (August). The Team event saw 11 countries competing with two players each. It was a tremendous achievement for Prabagaran and Perera to finish second ahead of much stronger teams from India, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines.

Prabagaran and Perera played well in conditions similar to a combination of Royal Colombo Golf (RCGC) and Victoria Golf Club (VGC) Course. The former’s driving was comparable to the longest hitters around.

The latter ended up with 2 over par 285 to take the 9th best individual spot, while the former’s final score of 287 (5 over par) saw him finishing among the top 15 individuals in field of 50 amateurs.
