Colombo University fancied to win again

Oarsmen and oarswomen of University of Colombo and University of
Moratuwa will row at the 23rd Inter-University Regatta on Saturday
September 9 on the Beira waters starting at 1.30 p.m. This year’s
regatta is hosted by University of Moratuwa.
Last year, University of Colombo men’s crew had six wins including the
Boat Race to collect 40 points. Moratuwa only had a win in the ‘B’
Sculls (2 points.)
The Colombo Ladies also showed team work of the highest order and
superior rowing skills to win 3 events of the 4 including the fours
event.
The points tally: University of Colombo 26 to Moratuwa University’s 6
points.
This year too, the University of Colombo is fancied to repeat last
year’s success. But the University of Moratuwa had been hard at training
on the Bolgoda Lake, the new venue where the South Asian Games rowing
discipline was held a couple of days back.
The events to be worked off:
Men’s: ‘A’ Scull, ‘B’ Sculls, ‘A’ Pairs, ‘B’ Pairs, ‘A’ Fours, ‘B’
Fours.
Women: Sculls, ‘A’ Pairs, ‘B’ Pairs ,Fours. The Graduate Fours will
also be worked off.
The men’s champions will be presented the Prof. Stanley Wijesundera
Challenge Trophy and the women’s champions, the Lloyd Sirimanne
Challenge Trophy.
The best men’s and women’s rowers will also be selected and special
trophies will be presented.
