Moors S. C. gearing up to celebrate its centenary in a big way

The 99-year-old Moors Sports Club commenced various advanced
development projects this year (2006) to uplift the infrastructure
facilities of the club. The completion of the pavilion with a members
lounge, dressing rooms for its cricketers, gymnasium, office for the
selection committee, umpires rooms are some of the additions to the
club.
Shafeek Rajabdeen, President of Moors SC, said that the pavilion
constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 15 million is to be named after
one of its past Presidents - the late Rahuman M. Hathy, who was also a
former Treasurer of the then Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL).
The two wings of the pavilion is to be named after the late Makkin Salih
and Tony Buhar,while the Billiards and Snooker parlor is to be named
after the Late Falil A. Gaffoor, top of the club house after M. I. Bin
Ismail and the prayer room after E. G. Adamally.
Speaking at its annual general meeting, Rajabdeen, thanked Sri Lanka
Cricket (SLC) who granted them Rs. 3.2 million towards the development
of the drainage system for the grounds as well as its sponsors (Union
Assurance, Phone Co Ltd and Amana Takaful) since 1999. He further said
that the development work at the club premises at Braybrooke Place
continues with Dine More Restaurant expressing as interest to open out
at an estimated investment of Rs. 10 million.
Now, Moors, are in the process of starting the second floor at an
estimated cost of Rs. 4.5 million. while a swimming pool, badminton
courts and indoor cricket nets too are on the card.
