Lankan expatriates vow to work against terrorism

More than twenty five Sri Lankan organisations in United Kingdom have
formed an organisation to campaign for Peace and unity in Sri Lanka (CPUSL).
Sri Lanka's High Commissioner in UK (Mrs.) Kshenuka Senewiratne,
convenor of this organisation requested CPUSL's members to formulate a
pro-active Media strategy to deal with the LTTE's disinformation and
propaganda campaign.
High Commissioner Senewiratne told the participants that Sri Lankan
diaspora in UK should bring all the members to common platform to spread
the message of unity in order to build trust and confidence among the
different groups, that comprise the Sri Lankan diaspora, condemn
terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and to curb fundraising,
preventing of extortion, and intimidation of Tamil residents in UK, the
tigers will be forced to return to the negotiating table.
CPUSL General Secretary Douglas Wickremaratne said that the support
of the UK is paramount to defeat terrorism in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Nanda Ekanayaka of Sri Lanka Women's Association said that they
were united in one determination in order to bring about peace.
"We need to defeat terrorism and persuade the LTTE terrorists to
renounce violence and enter democratic process.
Rajasingham Jayadevan who was held at as ransom by the LTTE on a
visit to Sri Lanka last year said it is time for the Sri Lankan diaspora
to take positive to push western government to end LTTE's terror in and
outside Sri Lanka. |
