Rs. 13.8 m school building donated
A modern three-storeyed building built at a cost of Rs. 13.8 million
was opened at Siddhartha Vidyalaya, at Dikkumbura in Ahangama recently.
The building was a donation by Nanda Ranasinghe, a Sri Lankan domiciled
in America.
The new building is equipped with all modern amenities. One cannot
forget the fact that it was the magnanimity of the donor that he
declined to name the new building after him despite the cost incurred by
him.
The building was opened recently. At a time when the country is
burdened with financial constraints, it comes as a windfall when Sri
Lankans abroad volunteered to donate such nation-building assets such as
schools and hospitals. Regrettably we have come across instances where
such capital assets either donated by the private parties or put up by
the government are not adequately maintained.
Broken furniture, damaged roofs, rain-gutters, walls and other
valuable fittings have become visible in most of the public buildings. |
