President takes prompt action
Following the news report in the Sunday Observer on October 29 under
the heading 'Read Mr. Fowzie, we are train commenters', President
Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed his officials to take remedial action to
the woes of the commuters at the Fort Railway Station.
A letter addressed to the Secretary, Ministry of Highways P. M.
Leelarathne stated that the attention of the President has been drawn to
the news item appearing in the Sunday Observer dated October 29,
captioned Read Mr. Fowzie, We are train commuters.
"Unexpected cancellation of trains, wrong information over the public
address system at the Fort Railway Station, long delays of trains
thereby causing the public to get stranded, are but a few of the
difficulties experienced by commuters.
You are requested to take necessary steps to correct the prevailing
situation at least curtailing such difficulties in the future", the
letter said. Meanwhile, referring to another article titled "D. R.
Wijewardene Car Park' which appeared in the same edition of the Sunday
Observer, a letter addressed to Colombo DIG Poojitha Jayasundara asked
the police to take remedial measures as this car park has posed a
security threat to the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. |
