by Beverley Jansz
Sri Lanka's first five-star property, Ceylon Continental Hotel
(formerly Inter-Continental Hotel) has been fully refurbished, and given
a 'Value Added Glamour' look.
This 250-room hotel has been transformed into a hotel of
International standard and elegance, retaining its 'old world charm'.
The Ceylon Continental Hotel has a distinct advantage of the
panoramic view of the Indian ocean from all its 250 rooms. This has no
doubt, made the Ceylon Continental, the 'warmest heart in the city of
Colombo.' The hotel has three banquet halls, 'Sapphire Ball Room' which
could accommodate over 500 guests.
The 'Cat's Eye' ballroom has been given a brilliant look, with a
colourful carpet specially brought in from the UK. A unique feature at
the 'Cat's Eye, is that guests get a breathtaking view of the Galle Face
and the Indian ocean. The 'Moonstone' the latest underground banquet
hall, is equipped with elegant chandeliers and granite floor, with
luxury wood carvings.
The two seminar halls 'Garnet Room' and 'Oak Room' too have been
given a new and modern look. The hotel's Coffee Shop 'Cafe Emerald' too
has been given a brilliant look. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner
buffets, with 'Theme Nights'. The 'Tandoor' authentic Indian restaurant
offers the very best in Indian cuisine.
An expert Indian Chef, Rakesh Singh was recently brought in to offer
guests a wide selection of Indian culinary delights. At the 'Tandoor' a
Businessmen's lunch buffet is offered at special prices specially for
Indian food lovers.
Since Inter-Continental became the Ceylon Continental Hotel,
versatile hotelier, Anil Jayemanne was appointed General Manager and he
has used his talents to make Ceylon Continental Hotel, the 'warmest
heart in the city'. Anil with the co-operation of his ever smiling
staff, has now converted Ceylon Continental Hotel to a star property
which is second to none in the world.
