Anusha, Muranga to Jakarta
The junior Wheelchair tennis programme of the Sri Lanka Tennis
Association (SLTA) received a shot in the arm by the Cyruff Foundation
of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) with two players being
selected to attend a specialised coaching programme in Indonesia from
November 23 to 26.
The two players are 17-year-old Anusha Lakmali Amaratunga who is an
Advanced Level student and 11-year-old Muranga Sandakalum, a Grade 8
student.
Both are from the Sevena Lama Nivasa, a home for disabled orphans in
Kotte.
They will be accompanied to Jakarta by the institution's matron, Ms
Sriyani Gamage, and Jagath Welikala, who coaches the country's
wheelchair tennis players.
The Cyruff Foundation was initiated by famous Dutch soccer player,
Johann Cyruff, and is dedicated to rehabilitate the disabled through
sports and is managed by the ITF, and the programme in Indonesia is one
of its development project.
