The world brought closer through aviation
You know about aviation and may have even used it some time or the
other. Aviation has brought the world closer, and has made it easier for
us to visit places, which we may have never known before. The wonder of
aviation is celebrated on December 7, International Civil Aviation Day.

The Day had been declared in 1992 by the International Civil Aviation
Organisation (ICAO), a specialised UN agency, to highlight and advance
the benefits of international civil aviation. Observation of the Day
started on December 7, 1994 - the 50th anniversary of the signing of the
Convention on International Civil Aviation in 1944, which established
the ICAO. In 1996, the Day was recognised by the UN, which urged
governments as well as national, regional, international and
inter-governmental organisations to take steps to observe it.
The special observations are held to generate and strengthen public
awareness of the importance of international civil aviation in the
social and economic development of states, and of the role of the ICAO
in promoting safety, efficiency and regularity of international air
transport.
The ICAO is the agency which prepares the principles and techniques
of international air navigation and supports the planning and
development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly
growth.
Its Council adopts the standards and recommended practices concerning
air navigation, prevention of unlawful interference, and facilitation of
border-crossing procedures for international civil aviation. |
