FDI linked to peace and political stability - NCCSL president
Foreign direct investment is directly linked to
peace and political stability, president, National Chamber of
Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) Ms Nirmali Samaratunga said last week.
The conflict in the north and east of the island affects the
business climate of the whole country. She also said that businesses
must compete with other businesses outside a nation's borders, at
the National Business Excellence awards 2006.

Asian life insurance market is bigger
The life insurance market in Asia is bigger than
general insurance primarily due to lack of adequate social security
systems and the percentage of the population above 60 years. The
Asian life insurance premium was US$ 573 billion while the world
life insurance premium in 2005 was US$ 1,974 billion.

WB to fund second phase of Gemidiriya
The World Bank has agreed to fund the second
phase of the Gemidiriya Comprehensive Integrated Community
Development Project (GCICP). The CEO of the project Dr. Gamini
Batuwitage said that the Bank agreed to provide funds to plan the
second phase of the project.
