DIG Lewke to contest Presidency
by Lal Gunasekera
RUGBY: For the first time in the history of the Sri Lanka Rugby
Football Union (SLRFU), there is going to be a contest for the post of
President at its annual general meeting scheduled to be held on January
6.
The incumbent President, Priyantha Ekanayake, completes his two-year
term in office.
The normal practice is for the Deputy President to take over the top
slot. The Deputy President is Michael Jayasekera, a former top centre
three-quater hailing from S. Thomas' College (Mount Lavinia), who later
turned out for Havelocks and Sri Lanka with distinction.
However, DIG Nimal Lewke, the Commandant of the Special Task Force (STF),a
former Kandy Sports Club, Police and Sri Lanka flanker of repute, is to
contest Jayasekera for the post of President. Lewke, is a former
national coach too. |
