Police and Otters top among veterans
SWIMMING: The swimmers from Police Sports Club and Otter
Aquatic Club performed best to become overall men's and women's
champions respectively at Masters Long Course Swimming Championships
conducted by the Interim Committee of Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union and
held at the Police Swimming Pool at Narahenpita.
Police swimming squad collected 400 points to take the top slot in
the men's overall championships while Otter AC was placed first with
297. Meanwhile one of the oldest swimming clubs in the island - Fishtail
Aquatic Club, Mutwal did creditably well to collect 175 points, only
fielding six swimmers and they took third position.
In the women's overall Otter AC came on top with 280 points, Sri
Lanka Air Force were second with 75 points and Sri Lanka Army third with
52 points.
Police SC and Otter AC were presented the SLASU challenge trophies
and special souvenirs.
K. D. H. Wijeyantha of Sri Lanka Police and Mrs. Nayana
Katipearachchi of Otter AC won the Best Swimmer's award for men and
women respectively and they were awarded the SLASU challenge trophies.
P. S. P. Dayananada, former Sri Lanka waterpolo captain and a reputed
swimmer who is the SALSU Director of Masters Swimming, Diving, Waterpolo
and Synchronised Swimming was responsible for making this event a
success.
Masters swimming
Masters Short Course Swimming Championships will be held on December
16 but the venue has been changed by SLASU. It is not at Tamil Union
Swimming Pool but at D. S. Senanayake College Swimming pool.
