Dharmapala - old boys sixes champs

CRICKET: Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya Old Boys team won the
Eighth Col. Henry Steele Olcott cricket tournament for old boys when
they beat the better fancied Dharmasoka College on a technical point of
losing ledder number of wickets in the final.
This was Dharmapala's first win the eight-year-old tourney.
Dharmasoka made 89 for 8 wickets in 12 overs (the overs were reduced to
12 from 15 due to bad weather) and Dharmapala replied with 89 for 7
wickets in 12 overs. Dharmasoka had earlier won the tournament on five
previous occasions.
Dharmasoka 89 for 8 wkts in 12 overs (S. P. Tedlal 22, A. Premasiri
15, S. B. Senanayake 3 for 17).
Dharmapala 89 for 7 wkts (Ravindra Wimalasiri 42, Gamini Perera 21,
P. Chandrasena 13).
In the first semi-final, Dharmosaka beat Dharmaraja by six wickets.
Dharmaraja 74 for 8 wkts (Senaka Dissanayake 12, Priyantha Weragoda
19, C. N. Dissanayake 11, Lal Ranasinghe 4 for 12, Wasantha de Silva 3
for 3).
Dharmasoka 75 for 4 wkts (H. M. Premasiri 17, Asoka Kumara 16, S. P.
Tedlal 14, C. N. Dissanayake 2 for 10).
In the second semi-final, Dharmapala beat Rahula Matara by 14 runs.
Dharmapala 84 for 6 wkts (Ravindra Wimalasiri 32 not out, S.
Gunawardena 12, C. Gamage 2 for 11).
Rahula Matara 70 for 6 wkts (A. Pathirana 21, S. Kulatunge 25, S. B.
Senanayake 3 for 19, Gamini Perera 2 for 17).
Best Bowler in the tournament was Lal Ranasinghe of Dharmasoka
College, Best Batsman: Suraj Gunaratne of Rahula College, Best Fielder:
Sunjaya Gunaratne of Dharmasoka College.
Man of the final was Ravindra Wimalasiri of Dharmapala.
Maliyadeva win
Maliyadeva College won the Schools Cricket Sixes when they beat
Dharmapala by 43 runs in the final.
Maliyadeva 75 for 1 wkt (S. Bulathwela 29 not out, Duminda
Dassanayake 22 not out).
Dharmapala 32 for 3 wkts (K. Sameera 20).
Minister Salinda Dissanayake was the chief guest and distributed the
awards.
