Kandy Municipality Independence Road Race Feb 4

Playgrounds Dept of the Kandy Municipal Council will organise its annual Independence Day Road Race for the 24th year in succession on 4th of February 2007 starting at 7.30 a.m. in front of Kandy Town Hall finishing at the same place.

The following categories will be worked on:

Inter Playground and Community Centre Race for the members of the 45 Community Centres and 22 Playgrounds, Inter School Race for Kandy District Schools, Inter Club Race for Kandy District Clubs, Women's open Race for Kandy Ladies.

The distance of this race is 12 miles for all participants and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners of each race with trophies and certificates. The Prize distribution will be held at the Town Hall, Kandy at 10 o' clock on the same day under the patronage of Mayor, L. B. Aluwihare and Deputy Mayor Suminda Wickremasinghe.

All competitors will have to undergo a medical test at 6.30 a.m. on the said date and it will be done by Dr. Senarath, the Chief Medical Officer of Health of the Kandy Municipality assisted by others.
