Ratnam win Kit Premier League title
Bernard Perera in Kalutara
SOCCER - As expected Ratnam Sports Club from Kotahena touched the Kit
Premier League title yesterday at Kalutara Stadium beating Blue Star
Sports Club 3-1. Ratnam entered this game with confidence as they were
sure of the title even with a draw.
Blue Star SC on the other hand who had the home advantage had to make
victory to outbeat Ratnam from the title. The game got off to a start
with capacity crowd present to witness a home team victory.
The homesters got to the lead in only third minutes when Mohamed
Fazwan made no mistake with the throw that came from the right-wing.
This lobbed throw touched Fazwan head as he went right to pick the same.
The custodian was puzzled by this and had no way of stopping this.
Ratnam SC struggled for over twenty minutes from there onwards as
they were in search of the equaliser. B. Shivanka was the saviour at
this moment for the Kotahena Club, when he found the net through a
leader for the equaliser. Just two minutes before the equaliser Blue
Star custodian made a brilliant save.
Six minutes later the main striker of the Ratnam team Kasun
Jayasuriya netted in the game to put his team in front. The teams
returned to the pavilion for the break with Ratnams in the lead 2-1.
After the turn around Blue Star SC gave no room for Ratnam strikers
to move forward and kept an advancing to find the equaliser. This battle
went on for 29 minutes and Kasun Jayasuriya who teamed up with Chathura
Maduranga penetrated their opponents defence to score their third goal,
while it also increased Kasun's personal goal tally to 29.
He becomes the top goal scorer in the Kit Premier League Championship
2006.
Blue Star SC could not penetrate the defence of Ratnam SC at any
stage of the second session to score. The few attempts they made was
thwarted by the good work Ratnam's custodian.
