SLIIT produces 675 IT Graduates this year

The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) had its convocation on Thursday at the SLIIT's Malabe Campus Auditorium. This was the first convocation for the SLIIT M.Sc. Graduates, third convocation for the SLIIT Postgraduate Diplomates, fourth convocation for the SLIIT Special Honours Graduates and the fifth Convocation for the Curtin University of Technology Graduates.

At these ceremonies a record number of over 675 students received their awards of which 28 received their M.Sc. Degrees, 52 received their Post Graduate Diploma, 463 received SLIIT special Honours Degree in Information Technology and 90 received Curtin University of Technology Degree in Information Technology and 44 received SLIIT B.Sc. Degree in Information Technology.

Over 2,000 students, parents and guests participated. Tissa Vitharana, Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. K. K. Y. W. Perera and Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Education were the chief guests. Prof. Geoff West represented the Curtin University of Technology, Australia and Dr. John Holding represented the Sheffield Hallam University, UK.

Prof. Lalith Gamage, Managing Director/CEO presented the candidates. Prof. S. Karunaratne, President and Chairman awarded the Degrees and Diplomas under the Universities Act. The Prof. Lalith Gamage Gold Medal and the Curtin University of Technology cash award were presented to Ms. Thisari Serasinghe.

The Best Achievers Medal for the overall performance of IFS (Pvt) Ltd and the Academic Excellences Award of Virtusa (Pvt) Ltd were awarded to M. Imesh Chamara Gunaratne.
