by Beverley Jansz
Robert Popovic and Sibylle Haak from Germany selected Sri Lanka to
say 'I do' at a traditional Sri Lankan wedding ceremony held at Ayurveda
Walauwa Tourist Hotel, Bentota, last week.
Amidst drum beats, the couple was conducted in a procession from the
Galle Road to the hotel at Bentota on a caparisoned elephant. At the
entrance to the hotel, Robert and Sibylle were greeted by in-house
guests, and taken in procession to the colourful 'Poruwa ceremony'
conducted in traditional Sri Lankan style.
At the end of the glittering ceremony, all invitees were treated with
'kiribath' and other traditional sweetmeats. The entire ceremony was
organised by Sunil Seneviratne, Managing Director, Ayurveda Walauwa
Tourist Hotel, his German wife, Mrs. Rita Albiez, and Manager, Ayurveda
Walauwa, Rohan de Silva.
Speaking to the Sunday Observer after the ceremony, Robert said that
he had travelled to various parts of the world, and selected Sri Lanka
for his wedding due to its enchanting beauty.
'Sri Lanka is truly a tourist's paradise, blessed with all potentials
for a perfect and memorable holiday', Robert said. 'Sibylle and I am
taking back sweet memories of our wedding ceremony conducted in
traditional Sri Lankan style, and the warm hospitality accorded to us',
Robert said.
