President Dick Cheney, in which he escaped unhurt but which saw
several others losing their lives, is a disquieting pointer to the
mounting perils US power is encountering in South West Asia.

Bush to visit southern states hit by deadly tornados
US President George W. Bush on Saturday will
tour areas devastated by deadly tornadoes in the southern United
States as the country reeled along with Canada from a storm system
that killed at least 22 people. Bush, who was sharply criticized for
his administration's slow response to the destruction caused by
Hurricane Katrina in 2005, said he would visit Georgia and Alabama
to offer his support.

Four Muslim militants killed as US troops end Philippine
exercises
Four Muslim militant Abu Sayyaf gunmen were
killed in fresh fighting in the southern Philippine island of Jolo,
officials said Saturday, as US troops prepared to conclude joint
exercises on the island.
