Fishtail to revive swimming activities
SWIMMING: Fishtail Aquatic Club, Mutwal one of the oldest swimming
clubs in existence from 1947, is making elaborate plans to hold swimming
clinics and seminars together with learn-to-swim amongst campaigns for
club members and the schoolchildren in the area during the last week in
July.
According to Rodney Silva, the Club Captain who is also the
Administrative Secretary of SLASU, Fishtail AC has produced top swimmers
in the past like Marks brothers Geoff and Boris, George Speldewinde,
late Rizvi Zain, E. Lafaber, P. Fernando, M. Premadasa to name a few. At
present Fishtail AC only participate in Masters and Novices Meets due to
lack of talented swimmers.
Stanley Wijesinghe, the President of the club, said that the club is
preparing to hold the said programme in a bid to promote swimming and
find hidden talent amongst the school children. The club will provide
all facilities to the swimmers and the authorities hope to produce good
swimmers in the future again.

Meanwhile Stanley Wijesinghe was re-elected President of the Fishtail
AC at the annual general meeting held at the club house.
The other office bearers are - Vice Presidents - Franklyn Silva,
Percy Jayasekera, Secretary - Dunstan Abeynayake, Club Captain - Rodney
