The time has come to support the members of the Sri Lanka Forces, in
their quest to fulfil a crying need of owning a house - A need for new
beginning and a better life.
Any progressive person, irrespective of social status, desires to own
a new house, - new home, new life. The soldier is no exception.
Considering this reality, Ministry of Defence and the Central Bank of
Sri Lanka have got together to assist the members of the Sri Lanka
Forces by creating an unique project - 'Api Wenuwen Api Wemu' (Be
together for all). The project aims at raising funds to build 50,000
houses exclusively for members of the tri-forces.
"The present requirement for houses is over 200,000 though the
requests forwarded stand at 50,000.
Most of the requests are from the North central Province and nearby
areas." Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Willie Gamage
said, while addressing presspersons at a recently held media conference.
The project aims at providing a better quality house rather than a
less expensive house at an affordable price to the heroes who risk their
her lives for the betterment of others to live in peace.
The project 'Api Wenuwen Api' Housing Fund, after the much loved
promotion campaign that really strengthened bonds between the people and
the Sri Lankan Forces, earlier plans to construct individual houses and
apartments for the Army, Navy the and Air Force. Any personnel in the
service for just over two years, quality for the loan scheme.
Though the estimated cost of a house is approximately one million
rupees, the actual cost of the house and the property comes around 22
million rupees, the officials present at the conference said.
With a building target of 10,000 per year, the project is designed to
enhance the lives of these people and facilitates them with an easy loan
re-payment plan. The rates are lower than usual bank standards.
This is a great opportunity for every patriotic Sri Lankan, and to
anyone who admire the sacrifice the members of Forces are making, to
show the appreciation.
These men and women risk their lives to let others live and enjoy in
peace and harmony. The project requires 15 million rupees to achieve the
target of constructing 50,000 houses within five years.
Cash and cheque donations to the 'Api Wenuwen Api' Housing Fund are
accepted at all Bank Of Ceylon branches - Account No.7040000.
Contributions can also be made via Dialog SMS messages - type 'API' and
send to 8877 and each SMS will add 100 rupees to the fund.
