Sri Lanka Trust to enhance banking education
The Association of the Chartered Bankers of Sri Lanka Trust has shown
its commitment to enhance banking education in the country, said
Chairman, Bank of Ceylon (BoC) Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe.
He was addressing a ceremony to launch the program of the Sri Lanka
Trust on Thursday. The Sri Lanka Trust is the Local Centre of the
Chartered Institute of Bankers, London (CIB).
Dr. Wickramasinghe said the banking industry has become competitive
and it needs to keep pace with the developments of the global market.The
industry should bridge the gap between local and international business
institutions.
"The country's membership at the CIB is declining. Young bankers have
the opportunity to obtain professional qualifications at the Manchester
University in UK", he said.

S.H. Piyasiri said the Centre is collaborating with the Institute of
Bankers Sri Lanka (IBSL) to conduct banking symposia and lectures for
bankers.
The Local Centre which was launched in May 1990 under the auspices of
the CIB, London has helped in furthering banking education and has
launched events such as the Inter-Bank Quiz. |
