Pakistan envoy clarifies media fabrication
The Pakistan High Commission in Colombo issued the following
statement yesterday to clarify its position on certain news items
appeared in local media (not ANCL group).
Reports on the Parliamentary proceedings of 27 November 2007 carried
in the 29th November issue of a local daily, absolutely incorrectly
implicate Pakistan's High Commissioner to any aspect of the proceedings
in the House.
The characterization associated with the High Commissioner's
sentiment on the Commonwealth issue is entirely fabricated and has
absolutely no relation to any facts.
President of Pakistan and the Government of Pakistan have in
unequivocal terms appreciated and lauded Sri Lanka's support at all
sessions of CMAG and CHOGM.
This was manifested by the President of Pakistan's telephone calls to
HE the President of Sri Lanka; letters of gratitude and appreciation
from the Prime Minister of Pakistan to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka,
and similar calls of acknowledgement from the Foreign Minister of
Pakistan to the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka.
The High Commissioner of Pakistan in his brief remarks to a TV
channel conveyed his gratitude and acknowledgment for Sri Lanka's very
clear stance of support to Pakistan.
The same has been carried in print media as well.
We consider such characterisations malafide, un-substantiated and
without any base.
