Job training centre in Quatar for Lankans
by Ananda Kannangara
Sri Lankans who wish to be employed in Qatar will be given a
comprehensive employment training at a special training centre, to be
opened in Qatar next month.
According to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), this
is the first occasion where a training centre of this nature will be
opened in a foreign country for the benefit of Sri Lankan workers.
"The main objective of setting up this centre is to give the maximum
employment training as well as social training which our workers need,
especially those who are not familiar with the cultural and religious
environment of that country," Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the `Sunday Observer'.
Referring to his Friday's meeting in Colombo with the Director of the
Qatar Foreign Ministry Abdulla Al Khulifi, Minister Rambukwella said
that such a training program will benefit our workers in other middle
eastern countries in the future.
He also thanked the Qatar Government for granting more job
opportunities during the year 2008. According to SLBFE statistics nearly
14,000 Sri Lankans are currently employed in Qatar.
