Now a regular and popular figure for live TV programmes keyboardist
and vocalist Kumara Ekanayaka who recently returned from England after a
three months tour of performances will hold the spotlight with his trio
KET on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve at Bentota Beach Hotel.
"I'm looking forward to these two special dates like all musicians do
in their career," says Kumara who has released three original CDs and
his songs are popular not only in Sri Lanka but also abroad.
He is now working on a new CD which he hopes to release next year.
"I've completed twenty songs for this CD. I handled the arrangements of
the music and mastered the tracks.
The lyrics for the songs were written by Hemasiri Halpita and
Charmaine Millington who was responsible for about seventeen of the
songs. It was Charmaine, who is residing in England, who arranged our
tour where we performed at Liverpool, Cornwall and Cambridge.
It was heartwarming to see the many Sri Lankans who came for the
shows who relived the Sinhala songs and appreciated our performances.
Our songs Poddak Kata, Sennehelatha, Nandakage, Bath Kade, Dilenne
Tharakawiya are popular songs with them and we enjoyed playing it for
them" expresses Kumara.
He recently introduced some songs which became hits for the trio KET.
They were Soduriya and Shardha. Soduriya and Nandakage Bath Kade are
video clips as well and telecast on our channels.
KET comprises Kumara Ekanayaka on keyboards and vocals Thushara
Pieris on guitar and vocals and Stephany Samarakoon vocals. "Hopefully
we may go back for another performance tour in England but in the
meantime I hope to launch my own website to reach out to all our fans
living abroad" concludes Kumara.
