Twenty-one Adamjee Lukmanjee scholarships awarded
The Adamjee Lukmanjee Memorial Fund awarded scholarships to 21
students at a ceremony at Adamjee Lukmanjee and Sons Ltd.
The Adamjee Lukmanjee Scholarship Awards were presented for the
eleventh consecutive year to support students with financial
difficulties to continue their education. The fund was set up in
December 1997 in memory of Adamjee Lukmanjee who was committed to serve
the underprivileged people in the country. Adamjee Lukmanjee was the
Managing Director of the company at the time of his death in 1996.
The value of the scholarships was based in keeping with the need of
the student. Scholarships were awarded to students in various districts
of the country.
President, Adamjee Lukmanjee Memorial Fund, Hemantha Fernando said
despite the free education system parents today spend enormous amounts
to educate their children.
"Helping students to pursue their education and be useful citizens
for the country is vital. Better education for a better future is the
objective in awarding scholarships", Adamjee Lukmanjee Sons Ltd., a
pioneer in the export of coconut products and spices was set up in 1865
by Adamjee S.H. Lukmanjee.
