Rowers Guyan and Amenthi to undergo training in China
ROWING: The Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL) have
selected two rowers Guyan Jayaratne of Colombo Rowing Club and Amenthi
Weerasinghe of Ladies College for a training programme to be held in
Beijing, China commencing from April.
The Training programme has been arranged by the International
Governing Body for Rowing (FISA).
According to ARASL official these two scullers were selected due to
their last years performance. Guyan a former Anandian won the Sculls
event at the 2007 National Rowing Championships and also came up on the
Sculling list with several wins in other major regattas.
Meanwhile Amenthi Weerasinghe performed the best amongst the
oarswomen winning the Sculls event at the 2007 Nationals and also proved
her class as a sculler in other open events conducted by the ARASL and
Colombo Rowing Club.
Lakmal Wickremage, National Rowing coach will accompany the two
rowers. The three-member rowing team has been approved by the Sports
Ministry.
