Chevron Lubricants continue sponsorship of Deaf School's Netball,
Volleyball and Softball Cricket

SPONSORSHIP: Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC renewed its commitments
with the Deaf School's Past Pupils Association of Ratmalana for a
further three-year period as the official sponsor in Netball, Volleyball
and Softball Cricket at Chevron House last week.
Managing Director/CEO of Chevron Lubricants, Kishee Gomes, speaking
on the occasion said that his establishment was proud that they have
been able to come forward once again as a sports partner to the Deaf
School and that they have worked with the differently-abled students
since 2002 in developing their sporting competencies through Netball,
Volleyball and Cricket.
Their (Chevron and Deaf School) association initially started with
the sponsorship of the Deaf Schools Netball Championship in 2002. With
this, it became increasingly apparent for the need to promote sports
among the differently abled children to groom them into proficient
individuals capable of taking on the challenges in the future.
Continuing, Games, said that sports for the differently-abled
students presents the opportunities to develop their athletic skills and
enable them to experience the thrills of competition, and mould them
into confident individuals capable of achieving greater things in life.
Through this agreement, Chevron Lubricants will continue to support
Deaf Schools Past Pupils Associations annual Netball, Volleyball and
Softball Cricket tournaments where nearly 25 deaf schools in the country
demonstrate their sporting ability.
The President of the Deaf School Past Pupils Association, Shivantha
Vivekananda, is the dynamic force behind the deaf schools sports
activities in the country and with the renewal of this agreement with
Chevron, the Association will continue to work towards creating harmony
among these schools through sports.
Chevron has been closely associated with the Deaf and Blind community
of Sri Lanka through its many projects.
The projects introduced comprises of two phases with emphasis on the
refurbishment of schools and providing them with facilities for
education purposes such as the construction of a laboratory and the
presentation of Bralille machines. A sound proof room was also
constructed for the Yasodhara School for the Blind in Balangoda.
In addition, Chevron, has been committed to the future growth in the
community through its various other social responsibility projects such
as their commitment to the Sri Lanka Council of Visually Handicapped
Graduates, Matara Hospital project, Mobile Eye Clinic in Hikkaduwa,
Haritha Gamana programme was first introduced to the students of
Mahanama in 2005 and now extended to St. Paul's (Milagiriya), Prince of
Wales and Princess of Wales (Moratuwa), preserving and maintaining the
environment Tsunami Vocational Training Centres in Hikkaduwa and
Thallala with USAID's reconstruction projects in the country. |
