New Embarkation and Disembarkation cards launched
The Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka, the merit
award winner at the Taiki Akimoto 5S awards further demonstrated its
commitment to continuously increase its level of service quality and
productivity by embarking on an initiative to launch newly designed
Embarkation and Disembarkation cards for this year, in partnership with
Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Service Provider and a
fully owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom.
The launch took place recently at the Trans Asia Hotel. Foreign
dignitaries from British, USA, Canadian, Royal Norwegian, Chinese and
Maldivian High Commissions and Heads of Government authorities were
present.
This initiative came about as a result of the Department of
Immigration and Emigration’s efforts in introducing a new and advanced
border control system. Controller General, Department of Immigration and
Emigration P.B. Abeykoon said, “This has been a long- standing wish of
us and we hope that these cards with bar codes, which can be scanned,
would make it much easier to obtain passenger data and information.
There has been an increase in passenger movement with over five
million arrival and departure passengers per year.
