TMVP submits 16 names as heads of local bodies

New members to take oaths on March 24:

The Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal party (TMVP)which secured a landslide victory at the Local Government polls in the Batticaloa district last week has submitted the list of names of sixteen of its elected members including a woman candidate to be appointed as Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the eight Pradeshiya Sabha local bodies in the Batticaloa district.

The list of names of the new heads of the local bodies were yesterday handed over by the TMVP General Secretary E. S. Kaileswararaja to the Assistant Commissioner of Elections T. Krishnananthalingam. Asst. Commissioner Krishnananthalingam told the Sunday Observer that the names he received from the TMVP Gen.

Secretary were currently being prepared for the formal announcement to be made by the Commissioner of Elections on March 19.

“The TMVP has furnished the name of a woman candidate to be made as the Chairperson of Manmunaipattu Pradeshiya Sabha.

The names of the TMVP and UPFA coalition members to be appointed for the Batticaloa Municipal Council are yet to be finalised. Unconfirmed reports said that Mrs. Sivageetha Prabhakaran alias Padmini is likely to be tipped as the new Mayor of Batticaloa,” Krishnananthalingam said.

Sivageetha who polled the highest number of preferential votes (4722) is the daughter of former TNA politician Rajan Sathyamoorthy who was gunned down in 2004.

Meanwhile, the new members elected to the nine local bodies including the Municipal Council of Batticaloa district are expected to take their oaths early next week.
