Sanga to head Trinity Cricket Foundation

CRICKET: Sri Lanka Test cricketer and World’s number 1 Test Kumar Sangakkara will head the Trinity College Kandy Cricket Foundation which was set up last week in Colombo.

Trinity better known for its Rugby traditions, but has a longer Cricketing history producing many International level cricketers in the caliber of Ravi Ratnayake, Kumar Sangakkara, Kaushalya Weeraratne, but are currently in urgent need of a focused effort to improve and uplift the standards of the game.

It is with this aim in mind that some past cricketers such as Amil Ramanathan, Kanchana Ekanayake, Channa Fernando and Thushara Weerasuriya together with some keen enthusiasts have got this body together to assist the school authorities in areas such as Coaching, Technical and modern aspects of the game, Player facilities and profiling, career guidance and funding requirements.

The Principal Rod Gilbert must be commended for his support and guidance leading upto the successful launch of this body. He together with Vice Principal Canagasaby were actively involved in the inaugural meeting, showing their strong commitment towards the Foundation.

Kumar Sangakkara in his address as President, mentioned that he believes the success of the Foundation will be assured if the Old Boys in their large numbers contribute in an active manner towards the body, and called on all old boys to rally round this effort.
